John & Jayne Simmons

The Simmons are American business owners and entrepreneurs. They are the owners of the Southern Illinois Miners professional baseball team and AltonWorks, a development and social impact company in Alton, IL.  John Simmons founded the Simmons Hanly Conroy law firm in 1999 with seven employees and a focus on asbestos litigation. Under his leadership, the firm has expanded to more than 250 employees, including more than 80 attorneys, spread between six offices in Alton, St. Louis, Chicago, New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. John & Jayne were a part of the original investment group that purchased Alton Steel, Inc. Their involvement in the project helped bring more than 300 jobs to Alton and have recently sold Alton Steel to the employees after it became a growing and profitable steel company.

As the owner of the Southern Illinois Miners, the Simmons brought baseball back to Southern Illinois in the summer of 2007. They over saw the building of the Miners state-of-the-art home facility, Rent One Park, which was constructed for the team’s inaugural season. That year, the Frontier League had a record number of fans come through the gates.

Under the Simmons leadership, the Miners led the Frontier League in attendance each of the franchise’s first four seasons. The team was named “Frontier League Organization of the Year” three times (2007, 2009 and 2010) and captured the franchise’s first Frontier League Championship after the 2012 season.

Prior to owning the Southern Illinois Miners, John was the owner of the Savannah Sand Gnats, class A affiliate of the New York Mets within the South Atlantic League.

Both John and Jayne remain active in a variety of community organizations and not-for-profit charities.

They currently reside in Alton, IL with their four children and grandchildren.
